What is coconut shell charcoal, and how is it different from wood charcoal?

Coconut shell charcoal is manufactured from coconut shells—a pure agricultural byproduct of the coconut processing industry. Unlike wood charcoal, which requires trees to be harvested for charcoal production, coconut shell charcoal uses material that would otherwise be agricultural waste.

The performance difference is significant. Coconut shell charcoal has a higher fixed carbon content (≥75% for briquettes, ≥82% for cubes), lower ash content (≤3%), and longer burn duration than most wood charcoal alternatives. It burns cleaner, produces less smoke after ignition, and delivers more consistent heat output.

What shapes and sizes does Black Pearl produce?

We manufacture three product forms. Pillow briquettes in two sizes—our standard BBQ retail format. Hexagonal briquettes for premium BBQ applications. Coconut shell charcoal cubes in 25 mm and 27 mm—for hospitality and specialist wholesale.

Do your products contain any chemical binders or additives?

No. All Black Pearl products use natural coconut shell as the sole binder. There are no chemical binders, no accelerants, no flavor additives, and no artificial treatment of any kind. This is what enables our REACH certification and what makes our products suitable for food-adjacent applications.

What are the burn specifications for your BBQ briquettes?

Fixed carbon ≥75%, ash content ≤3%, moisture ≤5%, burn time 2.5–3.5 hours, ignition time 12–15 minutes. These are independently verified specifications confirmed by Bureau Veritas testing.

Ordering and Minimum Quantities

What is the minimum order quantity?

For BBQ briquettes (pillow and hexagonal): 1 × 40ft FCL — 2,600 bags or boxes × 10kg — 26 metric tonnes.

For coconut shell charcoal cubes: 1 × 20 ft FCL.

We can discuss smaller initial orders for new buyers in specific circumstances—contact us to discuss your requirements.

Do you offer samples before a first order?

Yes. We provide product samples for qualified buyers to conduct their own testing and compliance verification before placing a first order. Contact us with your requirements.

Can I order a mixed container with different products?

Yes. We can accommodate mixed containers combining pillow briquettes, hexagonal briquettes, and charcoal cubes, subject to minimum quantities per product line. Contact us to discuss your specific requirements.

How long does production and delivery take?

Lead time is 30–45 days ex-factory Colombo, Sri Lanka. Transit time varies by destination port—approximately 18 days to Rotterdam, 22 days to Hamburg, and 28 days to Los Angeles. Total time from order to destination port: typically 50–75 days.

Certifications and Compliance

Which certifications do you hold?

EN 1860-2, DIN Geprüft, REACH, Bureau Veritas, BSCI, and SA 8000. All certificates are current and available for supplier audits.

Is your product EUDR compliant?

Yes. Coconut shell is a 100% agricultural byproduct—no trees are felled during production. Our supply chain is fully traceable from coconut shell source to finished product. Complete traceability documentation is available for EU procurement teams.

Can you provide certification documents for our compliance team?

Yes. We provide our complete certification pack—including all certificates, Bureau Veritas test reports, and traceability documentation—to qualifying wholesale buyers as part of our standard supplier onboarding process.

Do you hold EN 1860-2 for both pillow and hexagonal briquettes?

Yes. Both product lines hold current EN 1860-2 and DIN Geprüft certification.

Private Label and Packaging

Do you offer private label manufacturing?

Yes. We manufacture private label BBQ briquettes and charcoal cubes for retailers and distributors globally. Your brand, your packaging design, and our product. Available from standard MOQ.

What packaging formats are available?

Standard BBQ retail format: 10 kg bag. We can also accommodate 3 kg, 5 kg, and 15 kg formats for private label programs, subject to minimum quantities. Charcoal cubes: 10 kg master box with 1 kg or 500 g inner retail packs.

Can you match specific packaging or branding requirements?

Yes. We work with buyers to develop packaging that meets their retail program specifications. Artwork, barcode placement, language requirements, and compliance labeling can all be accommodated.

Pricing and Payment

What payment terms do you offer?

Standard terms: T/T 30% deposit with order, 70% before loading. Letter of credit (LC) available for established buyers. We can discuss alternative arrangements for long-term supply partners.

Do you offer volume discounts?

Yes. Annual volume pricing is available for buyers committing to 2 or more shipments per year. Discounts range from 3% for 2 annual shipments to 8% for 4 or more annual shipments.

What is your pricing basis?

All prices are quoted FOB Colombo, Sri Lanka. CIF pricing to your destination port is available on request.
